Artist Statement:

Once, in the frenzied process of making a life-sized sculpture out of ready-made objects, I drilled into a vacuum battery and caused a fire. I was so absorbed in building this ramshackle piece that at first, I didn’t realize what I had done. When the smoke cleared, I wondered: how far was I willing to go in the act of making?

My work is driven by an urgent need to create, specifically to construct tangible worlds that channel the vibrancy and absurdity of our own. Using cardboard and paint, I build furniture, objects, and environments that become both sculptures and the subjects of my paintings. This dialogue between object and image is an equal exchange, as the sculptures and installations are as much paintings as the ones on canvas. I want my work to be inhabited, to be lived in, to be experienced rather than merely observed.

That is why I build: to make something real enough to step into, even if it occasionally catches fire.
